From Farm to Village: Growing Something Special
Sweet Potato Cafe Farm: 5377 Manor Dr, Stone Mountain, GA 30083
Who knew so much could be growing right in the heart of Stone Mountain Village? Meet Kwabena “Cubby” Nkromo, the urban farmer behind Atlanta Food and Farm, who's turning overlooked spaces into thriving gardens and bringing local businesses together in the process!
From growing sweet potatoes for Sweet Potato Cafe to transforming unused garden beds behind ART Station into productive growing spaces, Cubby is proving that you don't need acres of farmland to make a difference. His gardens produce everything from Japanese purple sweet potatoes to kale, while partnerships with local businesses help turn food scraps, coffee roasting byproducts, and other organic materials into nutrient-rich compost.
It's all part of a growing vision for a healthier, more connected community—one where local food, sustainability, and creativity work hand in hand. And with plans to introduce educational tours, Cubby hopes to give visitors an opportunity to discover the fascinating world of urban farming right here in the Village.
