The Cows Are Coming!
We’re Getting A New Resident!
It all started with some exciting news! In September 2026, Stone Mountain Village learned that we would be participating in The Cows Are Coming!, a public art project that would bring a life-sized cow sculpture to our historic Village. But this wasn't just any cow! Our new four-legged arrival would become a blank canvas, offering an opportunity to celebrate local creativity, showcase artistic talent, and bring a little more color and personality to our community. The possibilities were endless, and one big question remained: What would our cow become? Follow along as we take you behind the scenes, from the first announcement to the final masterpiece, and discover how one life-sized cow became part of Stone Mountain Village's story!
Our Cow Has Arrived!
The wait was over, and Stone Mountain Village had a new resident! Our life-sized cow officially arrived and was installed in front of the historic red caboose, where she quickly became a charming addition to the Village landscape. But while our new four-legged friend had found her home, she was still a blank canvas waiting for a little imagination and a whole lot of creativity. Now came the exciting part: finding the perfect artist to transform our cow into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece! We needed someone with the vision, talent, and creativity to bring her personality to life and create something that would capture the spirit of Stone Mountain Village. Our cow was in place, but her transformation was just beginning!
The Mayor Weighs In!
Our cow had arrived, but she still needed a little personality! 🐄 Mayor Jelani Linder shares his excitement about The Cows Are Coming! project and how Stone Mountain residents helped select the artist through a public survey. Highlighting DeKalb County's dairy farming heritage, the Mayor explains how public art brings people together, celebrates community identity, and creates a sense of place. With our cow standing near the historic red caboose and Stone Mountain Trail, she's already becoming a Village attraction! Watch Mayor Linder share the story behind the project and the exciting transformation ahead!
Let the Painting Begin!
Our cow is finally getting some color! As part of DeKalb County's The Cows Are Coming! public art initiative, this exciting stage gives everyone a rare opportunity to watch an artist at work. Most of the time, we only see the finished product, but this time, we're getting a front-row seat to the creativity, imagination, patience, and hard work that go into bringing a vision to life. With every brushstroke, our newest four-legged resident is becoming a little more colorful and a lot more extraordinary!
